It must be nice to be Ethiopian Self Made Billionaire, , Africa’s Richest man. His wealth grew by a billion despite the economic downturn. It is that time of year again and Forbes has put together a list of the World’s richest. On it are 11 Africans 4 from one family in Egypt, 4 from South Africa, 1 from Sudan, 1 from Nigeria, and 1 from Ethiopia.

There was 1 new addition to the list this year, , son of Egyptian billionaire, whose other 2 sons are on the list as well. Nigeria did lose a billionaire this year, Femi Otedola who had a bitter disagreement with fellow billionaire last year. Despite some major challenges, Dangote still made it on the list as the 9th richest man in Africa.

  10. with all their money… wounder why there are no pipes pumping in clean water to other parts of the country

  11. Wat use is it to be stinking rich if those smelling it don’t even have one meal a day. Why cant they give for the sake of giving not to escape huge taxes. To mahomed: wat of ur fellow country men dying in hunger.

  12. There is a big difference between the first African and the second in africa billionaire. THE MUSLIM GUY FROM ETHIOPIA HAS 10 Billion and
THE SECOND GUY FROM UN KNOWN COUNTRY HAS ALMOST HALF 5.6

THE LAST GUY WHICH IS ME HAVE $ 340 in my checking and $ 45 in my saving.

AND I WAS THINKING I WAS LIVING A GOOD LIFE. I SUCK, I AM NO GOOD. I AM JUST A LIVE IN THIS WORLD SO THIS BILLIONAIRES DOES’T FEEL LONELY.

  13. Billionaires are greediest human on earth..never dream of becoming one unless u are a greedy and unsatisfied human money is d root of all evils and all these billionaires are like small gods in their respective entities.. Love of god is service to humanity, oneness and equality.. None of these billionaires had won d respect Nelson madiba mandela has 2day without riches mandela is acknowledged and honoured by d U.N.. Viva madiba.

  14. Honour people for their service to humanity and not for their wealth.. Human ought 2 give helping hands to others rather than suppressing them and emerging as superior human bcos of their wealth.. How many billionaires have two heads or four legs or even two private parts? None.. Being a billionaire is unhealthy, share ur wealth if u have too much and save souls.. Dont be a rich bastard..

  15. i am a boy proud of my self and i thank the almighty god for creating me bcos i have come to this world to help people and bcos of that i will be the number 1 billionaire if god want.praise god u billionaire bcos u are in your time.good luck sea money

  22. Wow! Construction in Egypt is dominated source of wealth… Thanks to MOTSEPE for standing for black South Africans…. and Mohamed, isnt EThopia a poor country?

  23. wow! Mohamed… isnt Ethopia a poor country?… but how can you be in top? THanks to Motsepe for being only Black South African…. AND construction is guided as source of wealth in Egypt…. WOW

  24. I thank God for Aliko Dangote wealth. He has used his fortune to better the life of thousands of Nigerians and Africans as well. I wish u more properous business.

  25. Its a pity that Africa Richest Man( Mohammed Al Amoudi) is from one of the Poorest Africa countries, of what use is the wealth of the Richest man, when his brother is dieing of hunger, sickness and proverty…if your wealth cannot impact the lifes of your fellow brothers and sisters you are as well as poor as they are…you are a FAILURE!!!!!

  26. CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL THE BILLIONAIRS,GOD BLESSED U WITH WEALTH SO THAT U CAN B ABLE TO SHARE N BLESS THOSE IN NEED HAVING BILLIONS IN UR BANKS DOESNT HELP OUR SOCIETY SPENDING HALF OF IT ON BUILDNG SCHOOLS,BURSARIES AND CREATING EVEN MORE JOBS WONT HURT U A BIT.FIND IT IN UR HEARTS TO HELP AS MUCH AS BEING LEFT WITH A CENT.IF I WERE A BILLIONAIR N WILL B IN NEAR FUTURE NO 1 WILL GO HUNGRY N NO CHILD OR MOTHER SHALL SUFFER WE ALL BROTHERS N SISTERS IF WE CNT HELP EACH OTHER EXPECIALLY IN AFRICA LETS NOT EXPECT OPRAH N ALL RICH AMERICANS TO FEEL PITY FOR US ITS USELESS TO B RICH AND NOT SHARE UR RICHES BY CHANGING SUM1S LIFE.PEACE N LOVE TO ALL.

  27. Don’t be haters ok? these people either worked hard for their money or inherited it. Whatever they do with it is nobody business…you want money? look for legal venues ,opportunities to make it to the top!!
Trust me these people give a lot to their countries but unfortunately, the leaders mismanage the funds. You cannot blame them for it. Furthermore, Africans are tougher on their own countrymen mostly if the latter are rich since they always relate it to misappropriation of funds or illegal activities.
Bear in mind that you have a lot of Africans who strive to truly emerge amongst the best. In that journey, they have to cross lot of barriers…which is not easy.
Let’s just congratulate them and wish them the best!!!!

  28. there are other billionaires that i know are in nigeria bt dnt want to declare thier asset.
by the way where `s the globacom chairman on the list? i knw this guy is stinkingly rich.that mallam me suya is not as rich as he is.
less i forget, watchout for young money-emmanuel.i`m going to top the list soon

  29. havin all dis large sum of money is senseless. So many pple r poor and can’t even afford 3square meal, while some r busy buildin wealth dat they r goin 2 leave behind very soon.pls share these monies and send mine 2my acc no…peace

  30. i wonder where footballers take their cash.even in africa ppo lyke Eto’o,Kanu,Drogba n others can’t appear here, its so sad.somebody show them how 2 invest.let them make hay when the sun is shinning on them otherwise 2moro wil b 2 late.

  31. i`m vry prd 2 be an african, I respect all the self made billonaires and not those who inherited frm their parents, but anyway its life, why Matome Maponya, Tim Tebeila not on the list.

  32. Hey please be honest to your self and share the money to world because there is secret behind all this …… Mostly they made from hard drugs

  33. While money is essential to afford basic necessities in life, it does not absolutely guarantee true happiness in life. However, true happiness is derived from a life of contentment and pleasing God.

Thus, any one who desires to be rich must do that genuinely without hurting or exploiting others. This is unsentimentally true because why should someone be on the run or hidding when his riches are genuine?

  34. I’m happy for these men whom I beleive were wide awake when a lot of people were enjoying their sleep. I was happy to see that a nigerian is richer than some of my favorites, Donald Trump, Alan Sugar…I still want to see the Adenugas, the Otedolas on the list. Above all, I strongly look forward to seeing ME on the list. That – will happen. Long live Africa. To some of you who have made it to the list, please do more charity works and God will continue to increase your wealth.

  35. I thank God he still make men rich today as He did in Solomon.Though none of these richmen can be compared with that of Solomon’s glorious forbes. My prayer is may these men give God the glory as the source of their wealth and also help the poor around them and beyond.Money is not given for self alone because what you give out is your investment in God’s record. Giving is lifespan key.Thank God Africa can now be mentioned among the whites as rich people.

  36. Well, there is a mistake somewhere, they forgot to put my name on the list. anyway watch out in the next coming list and you will see my name GABRIEL EZEGO. top No 3

  37. Halleluyah!!!!!!!!!!!! I m so so so happy for these men of valour. They all, except the heirs among them, have 1 thing in common they are aggressive hustlers. While I meditating I talk with Warren Buffet and Stanley Ho in the Metaphysical realm. Common men won’t undrstand wht this mean. I feed on inspirations frm men such as these. By actually contacting the Cosmic Energies of Chocmah, Binah, Netzach, and Hod unto the Malchut of any mortal soul,any1 can achieve same or more provided the one makes right move in the right place and at the right time because the Ein Sof is impartial. Right now I have more than 1.1Million Dollars n counting . It feels so HyperGood to be Rich. All my Thanks to the Ineffable EIN SOF. It is simple but not easy becuz the word ”easy” and ”simple” have two different meanings. My Love to the World. Curiousity and the right Knowledge furthers

  38. dont pray to b a billioniar bcos all are very greedy, keepn money without thinkn about helpn.like dangote avoilds competition in market by block all those who are doing similar deals like his so that he can be the only man on market by selln high prize to us

  39. Aint nothing wrong with being a billionaire!!its actually God’s idea of prosperity…how else can you show the world how big He is?besides Jesus said you will always have the poor amougst you so wats my billion bucks gotta do about that.so great job 2 all the self made billionaires…where is Strive Masiiwa of the Econet wireless fame?

  40. I BELIEVE IN HARD WORK AND THIS MEN HAVE INDEED WORKED HARD TO ACHIEVE SUCH FORTUNES….ITS ALL IN OUR HANDS TO EITHER BE AMONG THEIR LIST OR OTHERWISE…

  41. WHAT ARE THESE PPLE DOING WITH ALL DIS MONEY… WELL MY OPPINION IS THAT THESE KIND OF LIST ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE. COS U’LL ALWAYS WANT TO BE ON TOP. (i dnt like being second)

  42. I doubt if Aliko Dangote is the richest Nigerian. Because i believe most of his investment are funded by fellow Nigerians. The wealth of some notable Nigerians are above $2.1 billion dollars. Mind u,i’m not including the bad guys, who have been stealing from the country’s treasury. To me,the “Bad Generals” are the richest dudes in Naija and other African countries alike!

  43. Great men of Ideas! Use ur wealth to bring peace to our dear continent, Africa. Watch ur back, my name is there.

  44. i thank God for the Billionaires, remember, they’s a least among you that is yet to be by all. What i believe is that God is the maker of Men, He will make known to my world.

  45. This man claiming to be the world richest man, what a joke when most of Ethiopian are dieing of hunger. why cant he use his money/wealth to better the life of his country men? it makes me laugh?
I give kudo to the family from Egypt (the 4 brothers). anyway I think i will be on the list next year ranking. watch out.
Wow the world richest man goes to Carlos Slim.

  46. I LIKE 2 WHICH U ALL DE BEST,THE WORLD IS PAYING U 4 YR HARDWORK. I AM POSITIVE THAT I WILL ONE DAY MAKE A BILLINAIRE OUT OF MYSELF AS WELL. ALL DE BEST AND BLESSINGS FROM GOD.

  47. its good but to think that there are no Cameroonians there defeats the purpose all together and in my opinion i think the statistics should be taken all over because i think that our Cameroonians ministers have been forgotten

  48. this is intresting only one nigeriancan be found here in 9 position hmmmmm even am aboki for that matter where ar all this igbo big belle man that around showing ther ar rich and all that …this is to show we nigeria ar still growing ..i dont want to hear any one say we ar the gaint of africa again

  49. While I rejoice with the billionnaires, I’d like to remind us that it is God that gives us the power to make money and so all glory must go to God. Thanks.

  50. only one person had been listed so far from Nigeria, which i disagree with.I would love to mention some people who are far richer than Aliko Dangote. They include:
    1.Chief Olusegun obasanjo
    2.General Ibrahim Babangida
    3.Alhaji Aminu Dantata & family
    4.The ABACHA’S FAMILY

  51. OHHHHHHHH MY GRACIOUS, I NEVER KNEW OF THIS HAPPENING, AM VERY MUCH IMPRESSED ABOUT THE GREAT MEN ABOVE.NOT ALL OF THEM BUT ACTUALLY WITH THOSE WHO MADE THE WEALTH OF THEIR OWN EFFORT AND NOT INHERITANCE MEANS. AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE AM STILL YOUNG AND AT THE AGE OF 23 BUT WORTH 96 MILLION DOLLARS AS I SPEAK.I OWN A PURE WATER FACTORY ACROSS AFRICA AND SOON I WILL BE AMONG THE TOP 3 RICHEST IN AFRICA.NOT JUST THERE TO STOP, I WILL ALSO BE COM PITTING WITH THE TOP TEN IN THE WORLD.I HAVE SOME NEW MULTI MILLION BUSINESSES THAT WILL START OPERATING EARLY 2011.SO WATCH ME COME OUT SOOOOOON!!!!

  52. Its nice to see Africans been billionaires but we ought to aim higher because the sky is the limit these billionaires are supposed to help Africa develop and stop been selfish.

  53. Stupid Billionaires. Selfish people. The two nigerians listed, ask them if they have any foundation for the poor man. Dangote is expploiting Nigerians with his business. God bless Bill Gate, he spend millions annually just to help Africans why some greedy Africa richest men are busy stealling from their.

  54. Talking about Ethiopia.. there is some thing that is kept in everyonse mind posted for long -the 1984 drought. But there were a lot worse times happened some where else in the world after that…. War had long been our enemy in our development. 2nd opulated country in Africa,, next to Nigeria.

We still have to go a long way but are climbing up in a good way. Easy to tell about our status if one got the chance to be in Addis- Seat of AU. Everything u see is made by ourselves..not by any conial power…. Mohamed had also made some contributions for the delopment of his birth country….yet to argue about whether if it is as expected. ……..i hv bn in some parts of Africa for vacation and i am also currently some where in West Afrika -Lome and witnessed how much we progresed. Really proud to be an ethiopian. I could witness colonial powers left black spot to z black world….. Africans should wake up and stand by ourselves!!! Cheers!!!!!!

  55. Talking about Ethiopia.. there is some thing that is kept in everyonse mind posted for long -the 1984 drought. But there were a lot worse times happened some where else in the world after that…. War had long been our enemy in our development. Good to note that we are the 2nd in population size- in Africa,, next to Nigeria.

We still have to go a long way but are moving forward fast. Easy to tell about our status if one got the chance to be in Addis- Seat of AU. Everything u see is made by ourselve’s..not by any conial power…. The self made Richest man in Africa-Mohamed had also a hand in the development of his birth country….yet to argue about whether if it is as expected. ……..i hv bn in some parts of Africa for vacation and i am also currently some where in West Afrika -Lome and witnessed how much we(Ethiopia) progressed. Really proud to be an Ethiopian. I could witness the black spot left to z black world….. Africans should wake up and stand by ourselves!!! It won’t be long that we see African’s in the top 10!!!!!

  56. The list of African or world Richest will not be complete if my name is not found among the first ten in the world and i am mandating forbes to ensure no cheatings when i come up because am coming real soon to declare my networth.

Mine will be counted in trillions and i shall give loan to nations of the world in times of another economic meltdown.

My riches are uncountable and i am sure to make it realllllllll soon. So you guys on the list already, pray for me and when i get there, i shall make you my friends and give you loans to get better and better… Thanks, am Numbers from Eastern region of Nigeria…. I am one and not two. peace to all and one love to all..

  57. The real billionaires are those who serve as a bridge to reach the needy and poor in society. we thank the creator of the universe for the lives of these men and thank him as well for making them build great industries to better the lives of the people of Africa. God bless Africa.

  58. I am so glad to witness this grate achievement africans are undergoing but you people have some things left that is rendering help in other to create room for motivation keep it up from flemzy.niger guy

  59. In that list most of them have inherited fortune from their families, only few of them have made their own money thats why poor people will continue being poor and rich will always be rich and after they die they leave richness to their children!

  60. I am an old age pensioner (white nogal). Grew up in an orphange, always been poor, but always did a decent days work. I get sick just reading about these so-called billionaires!! One should work for your daily bread and nobody, and I mean nobody ever worked that hard that they are entitlerd to that kind of money earned by the sweat of poor people!! Furthermore I am disgusted by some of them flaunting their wealth, living in obscenely big houses and extremely vulgar lifestyles!! No wonder the masses are up in arms. HOW CAN ANYBODY THAT BELIEVES IN A GOD FEEL GOOD ABOUT THIS? The poor suppressed blacks. But most of these billionaires are black!! How convenient to always blame others for their woes. I feel sorry for all the poor – white or black. Obviously you don’t have a conscience that is why you sleep well at nite. LET THEM EAT CAKE!!!

  61. Africa’s Billionaires (No. 1)

    * Name: Mohammed Al Amoudi
how are you Sir please please i need your help me i want to start a business and i dont have cash and also have orphan children am take care and i want to help them through my sweat please give me 250,000 dollar and within 2 years i will be able to return your money and i have faith that i return it thanks and may God bless you please a i always admire you because of your wealth thinking that one day i will be like you

  62. I am very happy to see Africa people becoming billionaires. Africa is becoming better and better. These are great news. I am very happy for these guys. I want to be one of them one day. Although I don’t have a business now, I still working for some but I believe that all things are possible with those who believe. I have been trying to start one but lack of cash is standing on my way. I respect these guys because they give hope that in life you can become anything no matter where you are. I wish them more and more blessing. I love Africa and I love my country South Afrca.

    Thank you

  63. i pray to be one of those billionaires in-sha Allah.Aliko help Nigerians.and those who have but there names was not mention,u know yourself & God know u.

  64. I just wanna know how this people feel wen they know they got billions sumwhere in the bank,do they jump, get excited with themselves ya maybe they should b bcaus thyv made,bt wat happens wen suddenly comes an unhealthy skinny, abundant kid who has nt eaten 4 1 day,do u blame us elf 4 workin hard an getin ths rich,do u drown wit emptiness or do u gv back.
    South afric

  65. The Lord that started with me will not leave me,
It’s good to believe that not everybody will become billionaires,
OR even a world record holder.
But my prayers to God is to make me rich, comfortable and contented.
NOTE; Even these billionaires will leave their billions some day?
but d comment after their demise is WHAT? is important………….
    SO BELIEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE………..

  66. it is good to be rich but does their riches affect or have impact on thier fellow africa ,just like americans richmen who are donating thier wealth to charities thru organised foundation.

  67. its good to know that Africa has these great men, they inspire and motivate us.The good thing about this is that I will get there and even overtake them because the only thing they have over me is time.So to these men I say meet you at the top as I begin to break and set new records.

  68. Dealing with oil and oil product seen to be the loophole of all the billionaires. I think from kenya i will be next 2012 billionare to appear.kudos billionaire.

  69. I don’t think the survey was done accurately. Why? Because it cant be unless there be at least a single president from one republic like Zimbabwe. MUGABE is rich, no doubt. What about all the other political leaders?

  70. helow nigerians,i thank GOd some bad people 4rm my country didn’t come up as de richest man, becoz de are criminals de stole our oil money look at them ugly thiefs holgans idiots.

  71. I don’t see this as an accurate list coz it does not have seriours African tycoons like Mr. Mosses Katumbi of Congo DR. He owns T.P Mazembe football club. It also lacks names like Fredrick Titus Jacob Chiluba the former Zambian President.

  72. well its a good thing that god creat them for us but at lest they should try taxt them selves to help africans..africans have money but life is unbearable to most africans children.may god help us

  73. It is not easy to be a man. I give Kudos to them. they challenge everyone to believe in themselve. May GOD help us to be GREATER than them someday……

  74. leave the future to do it’s own work. my name mill appear in the next billionaire just watch out……………………………………

  75. Brilliant that we have a black south african on the list and he is “self-made”,

Keep it up Patrice,,, you are an inspiration to many of us.

  76. waoooooou. for sure DR. PAUL BIYA AND COHORTS WILL BELONG IN THE LIST FOR MONARCH. YOU KNOW CAMEROON IS NOW A KINGDOM WITH DR. PAUL BIYA AS KING FOR LIFE.

  77. props to the richest and to top it all he aint college educated… 1 thng thats alwys true is tht u only need 1 gud idea 2 make it thats ol

  78. I corroborate the fact that billionaires are the greediest people on earth; especially in the case of my country(Nigeria). It is people like them that would not not make our railways function properly because they own all the trucks; they are the same ones that would put us in darkness just because they make heavy income from importing generators, these same people would not make our texile industry work because they are the sole importer of used clothes from abroad!! May God save us from the hands of the billionaires very soon.
Sincerely, I don’t envy them at all just because millions are not benefitting from their ill-gotten wealth.

  79. my name is ghislain shotsha i’m just suprising of the richests man from africa they got money but africa people still waiting help from overseas countries why?they can make big meeting then put money together to developpe africa but if they dies to day the barieds them with that money?only to be called “boss”but is not enough!they must all about africa our land we can not hope always the overseas countries there is war ,there hunger, there is hungry etc….god bless them for all they doing and selling our blood to get money.

  80. good for them, but if they are billonaires with out changin or affecting lifes on the street,if also they can not teach people on how to make it.mike,nigeria.

  81. They have all worked hard to become notable billionaires both those that are self made and those that inherited their wealth. My investment is growing rapidly and my wealth will soon be heard in all nations, i will soon be among the first 5 richest men on earth. Tanx!

  82. All should put in plenty of hard work and dedication for you to gain such feet or level
We admire you guys cos we shall be learning from your good buiness ideas.
Look forwaed to meeting any of you for further talks on the way forward.
    Keep it up

  103. The #1 is Ethiopian, haha, we ethiopian are so superior to mankind. Hey, lets not mention that we have the most growing economy in the world, now, 2011. People in the world, give us some time and we will be competing with around the globe.
The reason we were in poverty and hunger is because at that time we did not have much knowledge of anything. Also in europe, france, 2/3 of the people died because of hunger, why?, the people were uneducated and couldn’t find a sulotion.

We ethiopian are the father of human kind, we gave birth to all humans.
